Teen Read Week
Teen Read Week, October 15 - 17.
The Huasteca Library will celebrate the American Library Association's Teen Read Week next week with several events including a "reading raffle" and the first ever ASFM comic book convention: ASFM ComiCon1.
Tag Talk: "What are you reading?" Go to the library and request your tag today or get a "Books with Bite" bookmark write your name and title of the book you're reading on the back. Then drop it in the raffle box in the library by Friday, October 17th, after school for a chance to win a t-shirt, a frisbee, or a free book at the next book fair!
Books with Bite: We'll shine a collection spotlight on HORROR titles - just in time for Halloween, and ask students (and teachers!) to sign up for the Breaking Dawn book club, which will take place next week at lunchtime on Thursday, October 23rd. If you've read the book, please sign up to come to the library at lunchtime to talk about it - the pizza and drinks are on us!
ComiCon1 will include a swap meet where students are invited to show off your collections or to trade their comics/graphic novels with other students, as well as student artwork displays and contests for the best ComiCon1 poster featuring original artwork and for best original comic strip/graphic novel/montage. Local comic book stores will set up tables in the mail hallway, as will professional graphic designers and artists - pencilers, inkers, and post-production animators - who work in the graphic novel and comics industry, including some who do work for DC comics! (Think, "The Hulk" and "Captain America"!)
Contact Mr. Beau Cain or Mr. Angel Ortiz for information or if you'd like to participate!
